Freddie
Green, guitarist with the Basie band for decades, established a signature style
of guitar comping. Often Green would use raised 2+3 voicings with the top voice
omitted. This gave spares, economical voicings used as much for rhythmic drive
as for harmonic content. Below are examples of these voicings. Note that the
entire raised 2+3 voicing is given with the omitted note included as a hollow
circle. Following the raised 2+3 voicings are raised 2 voicings. Using the 'build
a chord system' it would be wise to create raised 2+4 voicings as well as voicings
for harmonies not covered here such as diminished, whole tone etc.
